Help with Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ) or Jaw Clicking

What should you do if you suffer from Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ) or Jaw Clicking?

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, also known as TMJ, is what happens when the joint connecting your jaw to your skull becomes inflamed, misaligned, or otherwise damaged. TMJ can lead to several problems that will interfere with your daily life, some of the most common symptoms are:

  • Jaw pain or having your jaw seem sore all of the time.
  • Jaw clicking
  • Neck pain or shoulder pain.
  • Horrible headaches
  • Pain when eating or a difficulty chewing
  • Head posture problems

It is sometimes hard to believe that such a small joint can cause such huge problems. Some people will only experience one of these terrible symptoms and they will usually just live with the pain and discomfort, that is until it starts to become even more painful, or worse they start to develop even more symptoms.  Living with slight jaw pain may be easy enough at first, but living with jaw pain, headaches, pain when eating, along with neck and shoulder pains is something I would rather avoid.

There are some ways to help delay the problem from getting worse. For example avoiding steaks and chewing gum would be a good place to start. Next you could make a conscious effort to stop grinding and clenching your teeth.   However all this does is postpone the problems that will eventually arise. The only way to permanently solve the problem is to see a specialist.

If you live in a densely populated area there should be a number of chiropractors or other specialists who can help you. It is easier to find a skilled specialist in California or in big cities like LA and San Francisco, but even finding a chiropractor in Greensburg, PA is easy to do.

If you are suffering from TMJ or jaw clicking I urge you to take the necessary actions in order to obtain professional help, if left unchecked TMJ or jaw clicking can go from a minor annoyance to a major debilitation.
